As
the Vineyard of Southwest Pittsburgh, we started out in
the same vein as our founding Vineyard of Anaheim, CA. Our
small group met in a home in Bridgeville. Having left a
large church for reasons of conscience, we attended other
churches on Sunday mornings, but still felt drawn to each
other on Sunday nights.
Our
Sunday night meetings grew in number and soon we were able
to meet on Sunday mornings. After a period of time, we decided
we wanted to be a church in our own right. After searching
out different organizations (i.e., Assemblies of God, Holiness,
Pentecostal and even the American Baptists), we found ourselves
still not comfortable with any group. Someone suggested
we look at the Vineyard. We sent out couples to the Wheeling
and Monroeville Vineyards. Both couples reported back that
this may be the direction we wanted to go. We met with the
Vineyard Regional Director, who was also the Pastor at Wheeling.
It was after that meeting, we decided the Vineyard was the
place we wanted to be a part of if they would have us.
After
meeting in Columbus and Wheeling, we became a Vineyard Church
Plant in 1997. After a year and a half, we were released
as an official Vineyard Christian Fellowship and were incorporated
as a non-profit organization in Januay 1999.
